INCLUSION AT PORTER CROFT

INTENT- OUR VISION FOR SEND

At Porter Croft Academy, we are passionate about ensuring that all children in our school receive a high quality education, regardless of their needs or disabilities. Our vision is to ensure that by the time they leave our school, every child is an independent, confident and competent learner, taking with them a love for learning and the skills to be successful in secondary school and beyond. Every child at Porter Croft is a respected and valuable member of our community. Each child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential academically, emotionally and socially, through an ambitious, globally diverse curriculum with the child and positive relationships at its heart.

Through quality first teaching, planning and provision we:

  • Provide an accessible learning environment tailored to meet the needs of all pupils
  • Ensure all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, appropriately adapted to meet the needs of all pupils
  • Ensure that any additional needs are identified as early as possible to enable support to be put in place
  • Regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND, through termly review meetings and support plans
  • Work closely with parents/carers and external agencies/professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to supporting the child
  • Have high expectations of all children to allow them to achieve their full potential and the confidence to achieve their goals/ambitions

IMPLEMENTATION

At Porter Croft, every teacher is a teacher of SEND. We thrive to ensure that all children feel acknowledged and respected by every member of staff and feel included in all aspects of the school day. The bespoke provision and support packages we provide for children with additional needs are personalised to the child, through collaboration with teachers, support staff, senior leadership, the SENDCo, external agencies, parents and most importantly, the child. Every child is viewed as an individual; therefore, the support provided will vary dependent on the child’s specific needs.

Pupils may:

  • Take part in interventions outside of the classroom to work on specific outcomes, e.g. social skills, working memory, confidence building etc.
  • Have regular access to our sensory room/or take regular sensory breaks
  • Take part in social, emotional and mental health interventions, such as LEGO therapy, Theraplay, 1:1 sessions with the learning mentor/trauma informed practitioner
  • Receive support in school from a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT), Educational Psychologist, SEND teacher, Autism teacher/teaching assistant, an Occupational Therapist etc.
  • Have access to personalised resources in the classroom to support their emotional regulation, e.g. a workstation, a personalised individual timetable, access to a safe, break out space, access to an emotionally available adult
