Passport to Porter Croft

Letter – Passport to Porter croft

Passport to Porter Croft

Dear Parents/carers,

Porter Croft is a vibrant and diverse school with many different cultures and faiths. To explore this over the next few weeks, each class will be finding out about the different backgrounds, languages, histories, countries and cultures of the pupils who come to our school. Each pupil will discover what makes them special and they will create a poster called ‘Passport to Porter Croft’.

On Friday 15th October, at 2pm, we are inviting parents to attend an outdoor exhibition of ‘Passport to Porter Croft’ where we will share songs and food to celebrate our diverse school community.

To help your child get the most from these lessons, we would like you to talk to your child about their family history and culture at home.

A few ideas of things that may help them is the knowledge of:

  • Country or countries their parents/grandparents are from
  • The names of any languages they speak
  • Customary greetings
  • Traditional clothing, dishes, customs, stories and instruments
  • Interesting facts about their heritage or family history

If you would like to share anything to add to the posters, such as, old coins, photos, pictures of traditional costumes, or food, this will also help your child create their ‘Passport to Porter Croft’ poster and deepen their knowledge. We would discourage using anything of great sentimental or monetary value.

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to speak with Miss Holman.

Thank you for your support
